Saudi Aramco Mobil Refinery Company Limited (Samref) has awarded a US $400 million (SAR 1.5 billion) contract to Australia’s Worley Parsons for a clean fuels project at its Yanbu refinery.
A statement from Samref said the contract is to execute Front End Engineering Design (FEED) and detailed Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) for the project.
It is the largest project the company has executed since its start-up in August 1984, its president and CEO Fawwaz Nawwab said.
The objective is to reduce the sulphur levels in gasoline and diesel to 10 parts per million in order to meet Saudi Arabia’s environmental regulations.

Nawwab said the project will encompass significant, phased modifications to the refinery, with completion expected in 2013.
The refinery has a 400,000 barrel per day capacity and is operated as a 50/50 joint venture between Saudi Aramco and ExxonMobil.
Meanwhile, Worley Parsons recently announced that Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Ma’aden) has nearly doubled the value of their management consultancy contract for a mining project in Ras Azzour.
The contract was awarded to Worley Parsons Arabia in 2006 with a value of $133 million but this has increased to $234 million, said a statement on the Australian Stock Exchange.
The increase is due to construction of the phosphate mine, chemicals complex and mine site taking longer than expected. The contract has been extended until the end of the year.
