More than 600 construction workers who went on a flash strike last night over the death of a colleague have since resumed work, according to a spokesperson for the contracting firm.
The workers, from Habib Ali Awachi & Sons Contracting, were said to be angry with company officials for ignoring the health concerns of 30-year-old Indian Bala Krishna, who died on Monday.
The workers alleged that Krishna was terminated from the company seven months ago, but was not sent home despite ailing health because of financial constraints.
"We had been telling our supervisors he was sick and needed to be sent home but our pleas fell on deaf ears," one worker told the Gulf Daily News yesterday.
He added that hundreds of other workers had either completed their contracts or had been terminated but continued to stay on in Bahrain, allegedly because the company did not have the means to send them home.

"Scores have not been granted leave for more than two years. We will continue to stay away from work unless our grievances are addressed. We want a fair deal."
A source from Habib Ali Awachi contracting told Construction Week that the dispute had been resolved and workers ended the strike this morning following a visit from the company directors.
No one was available from the company to officially comment on the matter.
Bahrain’s Human rights Watch Society is calling for company officials to be held legally responsible for Krishna’s death.
Krishna is survived by his wife, son and parents.
