This year saw Aecom’s Hamed Zaghw win Construction Executive of the Year in the third and final individual awards category of the night.

Praised by our panel for the thought leadership he brings to this organisations, Zaghw has 35 years' experience in the industry and has previously managed teams of more than 5,000 employees.

Hercu Viljoen of ALEC was highly commended in this year’s category, described by his colleagues as a strategic thinker that can provide win-win solutions for clients. He brings more than 30 years’ civil engineering experience to his role, and is, according to their colleagues and our judges, “synonymous” with ALEC’s brand in the region.

Every year, the Construction Executive of the Year Award brings together a shortlist of some of the region’s brightest talents, with 2018 being no exception.

The shortlist for Construction Executive of the Year included names, in addition to Aecom and ALEC, from Design Group Engineering Consultants, Sobha Realty, Parsons, Shapoorji Pallonji, China State Construction Engineering Corporation (Middle East), and Services & Trade Co.

In deciding this year’s winner, Construction Week’s panel was tasked with identifying a proven leader who has boosted his or her company’s financial and operational performance during the course of the past 12 months.

The independent panel of judges, comprising eight of the Middle East’s foremost construction experts, selected winners in 13 categories at the Construction Week Awards 2018.

Construction Week Awards 2018 were supported by Gold Sponsors ALEC, ASGC, Arabtec, and Al Naboodah; Silver Sponsors Future Metro, Unimix, and WME Consultants; Category Sponsors Construction Computer Software, Acrow, JLG, and Ramboll; returning Social Media Partner, WSP; Content Partner UGC Factory; and Post-Event Celebration Sponsor, BAM International.
