Aluminium Bahrain has appointed Bryan Harris as acting chief financial officer. Harris joined Alba, currently busy with the Line 6 Expansion project, in 2009 as chief internal auditor and risk officer to oversee internal audit and enterprise risk management.

He also led the development and implementation of Alba’s Integrity and Ethics Programme, including the code of conduct and integrity reporting hotline system.

Commenting on the appointment, Alba’s chief executive officer Tim Murray said: “We are delighted to welcome Bryan into the executive fold especially at a time when Alba is about to be transformed into the world’s largest smelter.

“Bryan has varied international experience and has played a key role in strengthening Alba’s internal control environment as well as shaping our compliance and risk management.”

A qualified chartered accountant, Harris boasts more than 25 years experience in management roles with various multinational companies. He started his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) South Africa in 1993 and continued with a number of other top companies in the country.

Prior to moving to Bahrain, Harris spent 10 years in international leadership roles in internal audit, risk, planning and performance management, and compliance and ethics at British Petroleum (BP), UK.

Harris's appointment follows the promotion of Dr Abdulla Habib as chief operating officer of Alba, one of Bahrain's largest employers.

The company is currently working on the Line 6 expansion project, one of the largest brownfield developments in the Middle East. This September, 21 staff from Alba completed their on-the-job training with the UAE’s Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The site training is expected to prepare the Bahraini smelter’s staff ahead of the launch of its Reduction Line 6, which has been built using EGA technology.
