Mace Macro named FM Consultant of the Year

Mace Macro has been named FM Consultant of the Year at this year’s facilities management Middle East Awards held in Dubai last night.

Judges placed the company, the facilities management arm of the Mace Group, ahead of Emcor, which was highly commended.

Last night was the second annual fm Middle East Awards, organised by ITP, publishers of Construction Week.

Bill Heath of Mace Macro, who received the FM Consultant of the Year award, said: “It feels fantastic. I am really pleased. I want to say thanks to the team – all the employees at macro for all the hard work.”

“I didn’t see the other nominees work but clearly we have demonstrated our capabilities in terms of what we did and the results that came through. We have won this award for the second year in a row so we are really pleased.”

Other winners include: Bradley Robbins of Nakheel, who won the Facilities Manager of the Year; Ryan Darnell of Seba Properties, who won Young FM of the Year; and Omar Khoory of Nakheel, who won The One to Watch award.

Khoory said: “I feel great. It is good to be recognised and I wish to do even better this year.

“I have been in the facilities management field for three years and I did very well in saving about 30% of the Nakheel budget during the financial crisis by cutting unnecessary costs.”

Heide Peralta of Mace Macro scooped the Unsung Hero of the Year award, closely followed by BK Gulf, which was highly commended.

Alan Millin, director of consultancy for Imdaad was joined by Mohammed A Khoory, general manager of Wasl Facilities Management Department, Peter Andrews, lead consultant - Faithful+Gould and Richard F Smith, technical director of Atkins, on the judging panel.

The panel praised DLA Piper, which won the Sustainable Initiative award, for its support of the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle campaign across its Abu Dhabi and Dubai offices.

Walid Akawi, CEO of ITP Publishing Group, said: “We are proud to hold the second  facilities management Middle East Awards and are delighted with the level of interest and participation that the industry has shown this year. The winners were well deserved and our congratulations go out to them all.”

Last year’s winners include: Abd Al Aziz Osman, managing director ADNH Compass, who won the Customer Service Excellence Award; Tony Potter, group health and safety manager of Drydocks World, who won the Health & Safety Initiative Award; and Michael Cairney, director of EC Harris, who won the Functional Fit-Out Award.
