RAK will soon boast its first cable-manufacturing plant.

Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) will soon boast its first cable-manufacturing plant following the signing of an AED150 million contract between leading UAE industrial contractor and developer Hadeed Emirates Contracting and Middle East Specialised Cables Company (MESC), located in Saudi Arabia.

Hadeed Emirate’s selection was based on the company’s experience in the field after establishing the major manufacturing facilities for Dubai Cables (Ducab) in the Mussafah industrial area of Abu Dhabi. The 53 000 square metre facility, to be known as MESC RAK, will be fast-tracked in an eight-month construction programme.

This will permit production to commence by the end of the year in order “to target the growing domestic and regional markets,” commented Hadeed Emirates CEO Sameer Dabbas. Dabbas applauded the strategic alliance between “a leading cable manufacturer and a strongly-established industrial contractor.” He said it would contribute significantly to existing development plans within the UAE, as well as spurring future economic growth.

MESC RAK GM Saeed Al Karam said that, by partnering with Hadeed Emirates, “we have introduced an element of economic value in the establishment of our first manufacturing facility in the UAE. The demand for cables is witnessing significant growth regionally and internationally.” This trend has shown there is life yet in the moribund construction industry, he added.

“The special importance we associate with this facility in RAK is the culmination of the continuous growth recorded by the industry and energy sectors in the UAE and the region, owing to the establishment of a number of mega-projects. Accordingly, the facility is set to meet the demand of the domestic and regional industrial sector, reducing the time factor in delivering such ambitious projects,” explained Al Karam.

MESC was established in 1993 to tap into the oil and gas sector. Since then it has transformed into a formidable player, with regional offices covering the Middle East, GCC and MENA markets. Today the company has a presence in 17 countries, covering a gamut of commercial activities.
