Joint forces
In other developments, Dewa and Adwea (the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority) have joined forces with Ducab in a new joint venture to manufacture high-voltage cable systems. The new company, called Ducab-HV, was launched at an official signing ceremony at the WETEX 2009 exhibition in Dubai.
Ducab-HV will operate from a 22 000 square metre facility being built next to Ducab’s existing factory in Jebel Ali.
The new facility is scheduled for completion in late 2010. It will be able to supply the region with 30 000 tonnes of 66 kV to 400 kV high-voltage cable a year.
“As the population in the region continues to grow, so too does the demand for electricity,” said Ducab chairman Ahmed bin Hassan Al Shaikh at the official launch of the joint venture. We believe the only way to meet this growing demand is with a strategically-located facility using state-of-the-art equipment.”
Dewa CEO and MD Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said the joint venture was a significant step and “a reflection of the UAE’s vision to grow the industrial sector and national infrastructure of Dubai” so as to meet its future expansion needs.
It was also the first national partnership between DEWA, Ducab and ADWEA. Al Tayer said the current downturn would have no impact on the joint venture.
Ducab honoured at business awards
