It was great to see over 220 of you at last month’s fmME Awards, and in celebratory mood too. There’s nothing quite like seeing the community coming together to acknowledge one another’s achievements, especially in the current climate. They say ‘when the going gets tough, the tough get going’, or at least Billy Ocean did.
It was apparent from the majority of nominations how passionate the industry is about what it does - which is to look after the environment we all live in; something to be passionate about I think. The judges obviously took the process very seriously too, debating over many hours the credentials of the winners.
Talking of winners, a big well done to you, and better luck next year to the highly commended and runners up. fmME has put together an eight page feature on the night, so if you were there you may well see yourself, and if you weren’t, well you can read all about it anyway.
On to the magazine. The fmME Breakfast Club is coming along nicely - the vision of its members to form a trade association for the industry is on track and attainable. How long it will take I don’t know. But what I do know is the framework is there from previous attempts at formation, as is the will to actually make it happen this time.
I’m aware that a number of readers have asked to join only to be told the spaces have gone. It’s true numbers are strictly limited, but that is for a reason. The consensus from those with infinitely more knowledge than myself on such matters is that small is good, big is not.
Simplistic, but true. The last group failed because of its size, becoming unwieldy and disparate. Small is nimble, small is accountable. Small is dynamic. Once something concrete is on the table it will be communicated to the industry through this publication.
