Turkish ad agency, Median Turgul DDB, recently commissioned the renovation of an old salt repository that once belonged to the Turkish State Liquor and Tobacco Monopoly.
The building, which has become the agency’s headquarters, required extensive restoration including the construction of a connected mezzanine floor, which includes places for social interaction throughout the building.
Featuring its original 10-metre stone walls throughout, the building’s design concept revolves around the contrast of the harsh, crude stone material and the much softer wooden flooring, glass workspaces and lighting strategy.
In an effort to protect the original texture of the building, the stone walls were washed and consolidated with specially-formulated chemical solutions to increase strength and prevent further decay.
Damaged or unsalvageable parts of the walls have been restored or fully replaced and all modern MEP work has been routed through the building’s roof trusses.
