Tabreed’s district cooling plant under construction at The Pearl Qatar will set a world record in terms of refrigeration tonnage.
“At 120,000 TR, it will be one of the biggest in the world to be built as a single plant,” Tabreed’s new CEO Sujit S. Parhar told MEP Middle East in an exclusive interview.
The district cooling provider, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, is operating in Qatar through a subsidiary, and is involved with several key developments there, according to Parhar.
“Interestingly, our Qatar subsidiary is also experimenting with pricing structures in that it has entered into the business of selling directly to end users,” revealed Parhar.

Apart from The Pearl, Tabreed has one other district cooling plant under construction in the downtown business district of Doha, the capital city of Qatar.
It is also involved in various projects in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Jordan, though Parhar says much of Tabreed’s current capacity expansion will be focused on realising Abu Dhabi’s 2030 Vision.
In the latest developments at the QR50 billion artificial island, the United Development Company (UDC) has just unveiled Tower 4, one of 31 in total. The four million square project is already being hailed as the ‘Arabian Riviera’.
It will offer freehold and residential rights to international investors, and comprise 16,000 homes, including apartments and penthouses, exclusive town homes and premier beach-front villas for about 41,000 residents.
