Mott MacDonald will mastermind the next step of Masdar City's development.
Mott MacDonald has won a deal to design the infrastructure for Abu Dhabi’s carbon-neutral Masdar City project.
The UK firm has been appointed by the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company to design the main plants and utility distribution networks that will serve the 5.5 million square-metre development.
A particular feature of the design is a Personal Rapid Transport system (PRT), which will run on renewable energy and play a fundamental role as cars will be banned from the city.
“We are thrilled that Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company has chosen us to assist on Masdar,” said Mott MacDonald’s Middle East managing director Ian Clarke.
“Our appointment enables us to consolidate our profile as world leaders in the field of sustainability and furthermore help place Abu Dhabi at the centre of sustainable development,” he added.
Mott MacDonald's professionals are already on site helping to design the city's whole infrastructure.
The US $22 billion (AED80.7 billion) Masdar City is set to be the world’s first zero-carbon zero-waste development.
Mott MacDonald's core business sectors cover buildings, transport, energy, water, environment, health, education, industry, oil and gas, communications and international development.
