Abu Dhabi based ANC Holdings and its partner, Flag Holdings, have together bought up a controlling 51% stake in themed contractor Amusement Whitewater (AWW), which was behind The Atlantis Dubai.
AWW is a South African firm specialising in creating and enhancing themed environments. So far it has been involved in many retail and tourist projects including Dubai’s Wild Wadi, Madinat Jumeirah, Ski Dubai, Ibn Battuta Mall, Atlantis Dubai and the Sharjah Aquarium.
Speaking to Construction Week today, AWW CEO Duarte Marques said he was confident the newly formed partnership would enable the theme firm to begin new projects without worrying about finance.
“ANC Holdings along with Flag Holdings have bought a 51% stake in the company, making us a turnkey solution provider,” he said.
“At this point in time, it is difficult to find developers who will take on themed ideas and see them through, but with this partnership, we can now conceptualise, design and build entire themed projects.”
ANC Holdings chairman Tayeb Baker said the company had put aside up to US $272 million (AED1 billion) for the development of themed projects over the next 12 months.
“We’re looking at developing projects in the UAE and Oman,” said Baker. “And we will look at the wider GCC region too, in the coming months.”
He also hinted at possible locations within the UAE such as Deira and Al Mamzar.
Ahmed Ali Al Serkal, director, Flag Holdings also said Al Mamzar was a potential development area.
“We don’t have many themed projects on that side of the city, so yes we are looking at Al Mamzar being a potential development area as well as Abu Dhabi,” he said.

FEATURED COMMENT
Nice to hear this, but i thought ANC holdings is a Dubai based company rather than Abu Dhabi as stated in the article
