Infinity Tower will be the highest 'twisting tower' in the world.
Finnish company KONE has clinched an order for eight customised high-rise lifts for the Infinity Tower in Dubai Marina.
It will boast the fastest lifts of any high-rise building in the UAE dedicated solely to residential use. Three lifts will achieve speeds of up to 8 m/s across a maximum span of 271 m. Equipment installation will commence in 2010, with completion estimated by 2011.
“We are delighted to be associated with developer Cayan Investment & Development. This project once again confirms our valued partnership with main contractor Arabtec, one of our most valued customers in the Middle East,” said Eric Maziol, KONE EVP and area director for South and West Europe and the Middle East.
At 330 m and 75 floors, the Infinity Tower will be the highest ‘twisting tower’ in the world. Due to the challenging helical profile designed by Skidmore Owings & Merril, the lift shafts assume an unconventional circular shape.
This required KONE to use its expertise in designing customised solutions to serve the people-flow needs of the tower. In addition, KONE’s pioneering EcoDisc hoisting machine helped to resolve the issue of high vertical travel combined with limited space for machine rooms.
The MEP contractor for the project is Drake & Scull International PJSC (DSI), which is managing the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the complete MEP works. This includes plumbing and drainage, power and lighting, telephone and data, fire alarm systems and air-conditioning.
Infinity Tower has reached Floor 16 of the core wall and Floor 7 of the typical floors, reports the developer. “Where many developers have stopped or slowed down, Cayan has accelerated its construction work,” affirmed CEO Kareem Derbas.
