Work will begin on Phase 2 of Al Marjan Island in August.
Local developer Rakeen will start work on Phase 2 of the man-made Al Marjan Island in Ras Al Khaimah in August. The firm confirmed that this period of work would take 18 months and would focus on Islands 3 and 4.
Phase 1 of the infrastructure work, which is taking place on the Peninsula and Islands 1 and 2, is earmarked for completion in June next year.
Both phases are expected to cost around US $100 million (AED365 million)
"It is our top priority to fast-track the completion of infrastructure work as various projects that are being built on Al Marjan are dependant on the infrastructure facilities,” said Dr Fawzi Shadid, infrastructure manager for Rakeen.
“With Phase One of the infrastructure work progressing well on schedule, we are now fully prepared to commence work on the second phase after we identified the contractor for the job,” Shadid added.
The infrastructure work includes facilities for electricity, water, drainage, telecommunications, soft and hard landscaping, channel crossings, street lighting and fire fighting installations.
