More staff have been laid off at developer Nakheel.
Reports of Nakheel staff being made redundant last week have been confirmed to facilities management Middle East.
"Nakheel continues to readjust its current business objectives to match supply and demand in the most effective way," said a Nakheel spokesperson.
"Nakheel recently merged a number of its business units, which are now undergoing resource restructuring to ensure efficiency and optimisation of skill and talent," the spokesperson added.
Last month, Nakheel took over the real estate development and property management activities of Dubai Maritime City, Leisurecorp and Dubai Multi-Commodities Centre. Integration procedures are currently underway.
In February, Nakheel merged its Design and Devlopment department with its Asset Management Department, although the developer refused to say how many added redundancies had been made on top of the 500 announced last December.
A former Nakheel employee said the number of redundancies is nearing the 1000 mark, but Nakheel has rubbished the claims.

ongoing redundancies.....
As an ex-Nakheel employee who was made redundant amongst the first 500 employees about a year ago, I can assure you that based on my ongoing contact with my ex-colleagues, the figure given for 1000 employees is actually low and that the real figure is more like 1500 to 2000 employees from the orginal total work force of about 3200 at peak. I cannot quite figure out why Nakheel should not be transparent and give some real details instead of constantly rubbishing the claims.
