The Burj Dubai will now open in December, not September, as previously planned.

Burj Dubai, the tallest tower in the world, will not be completed until December, it emerged on Sunday.

Previous reports had linked the mega structure with a "soft opening" in September to coincide with the start of operations on Dubai Metro.

But the website of UAE daily The National reported that it would not open until December, citing an Emaar spokesperson.

The report also said a contractor on the project had said some external work on the building still needed to be finished, as well as completion of the internal fit-out.

Perspective required
I think people need to have some perspective about this, OK it's a little bit delayed, OK it's a shame, but we're not talking about just any old construction project here and we're not talking about any normal economic climate either. If it takes another few months so be it, it's going to be a huge boost for Dubai whenever it is opened, 'officially' or otherwise. Let's have some positivity!

Hard Luck
... so announce the opening, give Emaar management the hard hats, and tell all contractors / suppliers etc. they'll be able to throw things at them at the 'soft' opening. It'll be a hit!

10/10/10
Judging by how projects progress in this country, 10/10/10 seems more feasible... and by the way, it's not hard hats that people need... they need their bills paid on time ;)

9/9/9
Give people hard hats if need be, but to miss out on the perfect marketing opportunity of 9/9/9 is crazy.
