A Chinese firm has won a key contract to supply buildings to Saudi Arabia's education ministry.
A Chinese company has walked off with a US $533 million (SR2 billion) deal to build around 200 school buildings all over Saudi Arabia.
State-owned giant China Railway 15 Bureau Group Corporation won a tight contest, which was fought over by a number of global construction firms, according to the official Saudi Press Agency.
Deputy minister of education Faisal bin Muammar said that the new buildings, which would have a capacity of 150,000 students, are expected to be complete in 14 months time.
The contract represents 6% of the total of 3,500 school projects currently being implemented by the education ministry in the Kingdom. It also represents 10% of the ministry’s $5.3 billion allocation to upgrade schools around the country.
