The Al Gharbia region of Abu Dhabi is set for a series of development projects costing AED 8 billion (US$2.2 billion).
Al Gharbia Municipality director-general Hamoud Humaid Al Mansouri told the Khaleej Times that over 3,000 traditional houses, three new abattoirs and a power station were among the projects planned for the region, as well as parks and city beautification.
The housing renovation is expected to take five years and is split into two phases, according to the report.

Housing maintenance is currently underway to restore houses fit for habitation, whereas phase two will see the municipality evaluate how to deal with older houses “which have no use for maintenance works as they have already outlived their durability,” said Al Mansouri
In addition to the housing renovation, a 500kv power station has been scheduled for construction in Madinat Zayed, while $78 million had been allocated for over one million square foot of parkland, to be distributed across Madinat Zayed, Bainoona, Al Marfa, Mizeriaa and in Ghayathi.
Al Mansouri also said that the region will also see the construction of three abattoirs at a cost of $82 million, work on which will begin shortly. He described the projects as the biggest ever Al Gharbia has ever witnessed.

When I'm looking for a nice place to live I always want to know how many abattoirs the area has. Three isn't enough in
