Speculation remains over the 09/09/09 Metro delivery date
Contractors are set to accelerate in a race to deliver the Dubai Metro on time, following an inspection on the development by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
RTA chairman of the board and executive director Mattar Al Tayer called for increased efforts after the inspection yesterday, which took place at Al Rashidiya, City Center, Union Square, Financial Center, Mall of the Emirates and Jumeirah Lakes metro stations.
The news follows speculations that the project would not be ready for the much publicised deadline of September 9, exactly a month from now.

"The completion of work of the stations is now way beyond deadline because all the stations should have been ready and handed over to the operator in early July to make them ready for the operation as the operator also need time to install and check the systems to ensure smooth operations,” a senior official told Gulf News.
It was also reported that around 44 trains out of a total of 62 trains will run on the Red Line at the time of the metro launch.
"All the stations are not yet ready but we hope to open 17 to 22 stations out of the total 29," the official added.
Last month, CW reported that a “soft opening” could be planned for the Red Line that would see trains restricted to a 3.2km section of track between Burjuman Station and the Trade Centre Station.
