The scholarships are worth a total of $80,000
The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) has made US$80,000 worth of scholarships available for the 2009-2010 period.
“Any investment in relevant education is of great importance, as it prepares individuals to become effective citizens,” commented Victor Goldschmidt, chair of the ASHRAE Scholarship Trustees. “This is more notable in our area, as it enhances the advancement of the arts and sciences of HVACR for the benefit and future of society.”

Some recipients of ASHRAE’s latest scholarship assistance include:
• Reuben Trane Scholarship: US$10 000 to be awarded over two years, to Daniela Sifuentes, George Fox University, mechanical engineering. The scholarship was established by Trane in memory of its founder, an innovative engineer, inventor and business executive whose company is now one of the largest in the HVACR industry.
• Willis H. Carrier Scholarships: US$10 000 for one year, to Sean Kolich, Kansas State University, architectural engineering, and to Felipe Pincheira, Southern Illinois University, mechanical/civil engineering. The scholarship was established by the Carrier Corporation in memory of its founder, who installed the world’s first scientifically-designed air-conditioning system.
Over the course of 20 years, ASHRAE has awarded a combined US$991,000 to over 190 undergraduate and graduate students. It is ASHRAE’s belief that aiding these future leaders of the industry will, in turn, benefit society as they lead the way in sustainable HVAC&R technology.
“ASHRAE is a partner in the education and development of technicians and professionals who, as future ASHRAE members, embrace ASHRAE’s mission serving for the betterment and comfort of all citizens worldwide,” said Goldschmidt.
