The Connex 30 substation controller
Advanced Control Systems (ACS) has delivered 25 Connex 30 substation controllers to the Jordanian Electric Power Company (JEPCO) in Amman, Jordan.
The purchase of the units, which comply with the new substation integration standard IEC-61850, advances a smart-grid project that commenced in 2000 with the implementation of a PRISM Distribution Management System (DMS) from ACS that included 35 substation controllers.
In January 2008, ACS delivered 500 new advanced NTX-10 switch controllers to JEPCO. These pole-mounted units, equipped with analog input modules, are capable of performing fault calculations on the network, and communicating them to the master station to enable automated fault detection, isolation and restoration. This forms part of JEPCO’s plan to eventually utilise 6 000 such units on the network.

“We appreciate JEPCO’s commitment to the implementation of a fully-automated DMS, and the continued confidence it has shown in ACS,” commented ACS international sales and marketing director German L. Fellay, who helped close the deal, which brings JEPCO’s total investment in ACS smart-grid technology to over US$3 million since 2008.
The ACS R&D team in Atlanta worked with the R&D arm of Portuguese parent company EFACEC to develop the new D060 intelligent analog input module in a first-ever collaboration, showcasing the American team’s smart-grid innovation and the European team’s expertise in compliance with the highest international standards.
