Ten metro stations will be ready by September 9.
The Dubai Metro’s construction costs are expected to rise by US $3 billion (AED11 billion) since the contracts were awarded four years ago, it was revealed at an Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) press conference today.
Construction costs are set to jump 75% from the original $4.2 billion contract awarded in 2005.
The announcement follows the report from Gulf News ten days ago, which revealed project costs have increased by billions of dirhrams but did not state an exact figure.
More than half of the project has changed in terms of design, including the extension of the Green Line and two additional stations on the Red Line were likely contributors to the increase in costs.
RTA chairman Mattar Al Tayer also told reporters earlier today that ten stations on the metro's Red Line will be ready by September 9 including Rashidiya, Terminal 3, City Center, Al Rigga, Union Square, Khaleed bin al Waleed, Al Jaffiliya, DIFC, Mall of the Emirates and Nakheel Harbour and Tower.
Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed will officially inaugurate the Dubai Metro on the first day of operations.
