DEWA has awarded a US$129 million contract to Siemens for construction of a turnkey 400 kV substation in the Al Mamzar district.
The 22-month project forms part of DEWA’s expansion of Dubai’s electricity supply network. It comprises gas-insulated switchgear technology and four power transformers, as well as protection and instrumentation and control equipment.
“Securing this order was not only attributable to our global expertise in the field of innovative, energy-efficient power solutions, but also to our customer’s high level of satisfaction with the execution of previous projects,” said Udo Niehage, CEO of the Power Transmission Division within Siemens Energy.

The order is a further milestone in the successful business conducted by Siemens Energy in the Gulf region, where power demand continues to rise. Based on current studies, power consumption in the UAE will increase by a yearly average of 6%.
Siemens has bagged orders for 50 turnkey sub-stations from Dubai alone. Recently DEWA contracted Siemens to build two turnkey 400 kV sub-stations to supply power for other infrastructure projects in the emirate. Together with the latest project, Siemens has secured all the commissions advertised for turnkey 400 kV sub-stations in Dubai this year.
