Dubai Municipality has attributed the collapse of the building in Deira last month to poor quality materials, according to reports.

Speaking to the Khaleej Times, municipal Director-General Hussain Lootah said the municipality’s technical team had questioned both the quality of materials and the manner in which they have been used.

He also said there were faults in the iron poles used to support the concrete in the building, and that an ‘unorthodox’ structural style had been used.

pilework method statement
I dont agreed the comments of Shiva to blamed to consultants nor to pile design since the designer are always adapting either American or British standards. Im fully believed the fake bored piling contractors' fault... piling company owner they have money easy buy piling equipment not completes, hiring staff lack piling experienced thereafter pile mass-production daily to gain profits without knowledge on pile quality.

Reasons for Building Collapses
I believe the root cause for building collapses are the poor design and poor supervision by the conultants. In my observation 3/4 th of the consultatns lacks design knowledge and 1/3 of the consultants are new to the construction itself. Wrong selection of conultants in the name of cost-saving ends up in low quality constructability and buildability and finally collapsability. To refrain further failures, government should interefere and streamline the qualifications of consultants through screening tests and etc.

I believe that the cause of the collapse so far provided has been very general. I have seen more trivial incidents were the most minute details have been disclosed. All should be more transparent so as to avoid this from recurring in the future as part of the lessons learnt. Regards
