Now that the Dubai Metro is open, what effect do you think it will have on the region as a whole? Will we see a larger uptake of mass transit systems in the Middle East? Will we see more cities in the region linked up through light rail systems? And do you think the economic message sent out by the Dubai Metro will have a boost effect?

Metro in New Delhi, India is also an achievement - but I feel that the footfall has been under estimated.

Metro Effect
Its successful first metro rail system in Middle East, but Dubai govt mainly aimed to attract tourists.
But on comparing other metro system in the world user are daily commuters only.
So, it failed in terms of economics and succeeded in luxury, attraction, wonderful etc.,
This automatically shown the effect of depression on the metro.
It may be useful when it connects the residential areas (Sharjah) and Federal area (adu dhadi) with commercial area (dubai)

METRO AN ACIEVEMENT !
Having lived here in Dubai for quite some time i have seen the developmental process and would really admire Sh.Mohammed's efforts in turning the vision into reality ! METRO indeed is a remarkable achievement and is doing a pretty good service , specifically for the workers going on jobs to far flung sites , and is extremely economical mode of transportation , but RTA should expedite to complete the remaining stations (JLT)too so as to facilitate more people and to generate more revenue , accordingly !

What will be the Metro effect?
A big applause to the Dubai Govt. for launching the Metro on time. However I feel that most of the newly developed areas, need to be connected to the Metro system as these are going to be the places where almost 50% of Dubai's population is going to live in the future and with a proper lack of public transport system in these areas they stand the risk of traffic congestion. I hope we do not repeat the same mistake as what has been done in the past.

Is it a real Success and Acheivement?
Now, with thanks Dubai has launched its first Metro line where it was a strategic message to warn outsiders about the good stand of its economy. Yet to be a good sign unless a practical success will be achieved. In such luxury region where 4X4 is the common transportation facility, an amalgamation of supported transportation facility should be introduced to help the Metro success. Busses, Shuttles or even taxis are crucially needed to transfer people from Metro stations to their required places or even closer, where it is yet to happen for all stations. Moreover, the launch of 10 stations out of almost 40 is a big failure to the project management.

Metro MoE Station
ridiculous how the station design makes people masses cross at turnstiles...people leaving MOE have to cross the flow of people entering the Mall...could the turnstiles be located such that peopel dont cross each other paths? simple solution, yet Atkins have failed to see this simple taskh. shame on the supervisor at the MoE who blocked 2000 people wanting to use the metro and not informing people who used the metro to access the mall that they wouldnt be able to take the metro on their way home. shame on the RTA who failed to put trained staff. clearly the launch was a failure.
