The average Saudi citizen dumps 1.4kg of waste per day, resulting in an annual garbage production of 12 million tons for KSA, official figures have revealed.

As the industrialisation and urbanisation of the Kingdom continues apace, the need for more effective and advanced recycling and waste management solutions increases, according to the organisers of Recycling and Waste Management Saudi Arabia 2009, where this subject will be high on the agenda.

“Waste comes in various forms, from different sectors of the economy, and with unique effects on human wellbeing and the environment,” said Riyadh Exhibitions Company project manager Khalid Daou.

In 2008, the Saudi government invested SAR17 billion in municipal services, including water drainage and waste disposal, and SAR28.5 billion in water, agriculture and infrastructure, with sanitation a major focus.

Government officials will join other investors, suppliers and stakeholders to discuss the latest waste management and recycling techniques and technologies at Recycling and Waste Management Saudi Arabia, which will take place between November 1 and 4 at the new Riyadh International Exhibition Center.

“Different waste scenarios require different solutions, which is why government and other concerned parties need to be aware of the various approaches available for waste control,” continued Daou.

“Recycling and Waste Management Saudi Arabia 2009 will offer a comprehensive lineup of solutions for what has emerged as the largest recycling and waste management market in the region.”

Waste Recycling - Saudi
Having lived and worked in Saudi as well as other GCC countries and having been actively involved in waste management and recycling, Saudi has a long way to go until recycling is accepted. Its not that it cant be done but rather mainly down to educating the masses. There is no quick fkix and it will be a long hard battle.

Waste Management
I understand the problem at the moment and find it very simple to resolve. I have spent 25 years in Germany and learned to understand why the Germans are number one in Waste Management. I have seen their Waste powered Power plants and the many products, resources and jobs that Waste can create or provide. Tell the big bosses to give me a shot and I will show them how it's done. I will even show them how to create a beautiful Lake front resort using refined sewage water.
