Abu Dhabi will host an eight week training programme for government and construction industry practitioners ahead of the proposed new building codes, due to be released by the Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) next year.
The workshops will be hosted in Al Ain from September 28 and will be open to the public and private sectors.
They will focus the guidelines set by International Building Code and supporting codes such as the International Energy Conservation Code, International Fire Code and International Plumbing Code.

“Next year Abu Dhabi will introduce new building codes based on the ICC international building codes. The Abu Dhabi codes will set the framework for construction of buildings and will outline the health and safety regulations for the building industry in the Emirate,” explained DMA and Building Codes Higher Council Chairman HE Rashid Mubarak Al Hajeri.
“These workshops are part of our continuous professional development programme that will ensure uniform standards across the industry. Abu Dhabi's building codes will become the model of best practice for the region.”
DMA is preparing an induction pack that will be distributed to attendees at the courses to guide industry professionals about the new codes and educate them on the upcoming policies and procedures.
“We are working closely with all municipalities to launch the new Abu Dhabi Building Codes. We are nearing completion of the training course induction pack. The building registration departments at all municipalities are coordinating with consulting offices, engineering firms, developers and contractors to ensure smooth adoption and implementation of the new codes,” added DMA undersecretary HE Ahmed Shareef.
