Tenants and owners in Damac’s The Crescent development in IMPZ have mobilised to form an interim homeowners’ association to tackle outstanding service and infrastructure problems with the three-tower development.

“We are doing everyone a favour to improve the service provided by the building and the master community developer, and also to reduce the monthly and annual costs,” commented property owner Mohamed Samir.

The Crescent garnered media attention earlier this year when Damac enforced what it claimed was a RERA regulation that residents must pay for their parking spots separately from their properties.

Barred from utilising the basement parking as a result, residents were forced to park in the street, which prompted Damac to post notices at The Crescent stating that anyone doing so would be fined by IMPZ as a result.

The parking issue has still not been resolved, and is one of the many reasons that tenants and owners are joining together in “one strong, unified majority voice”, according to Samir, who urged tenants and owners to become ‘empowered’ as per RERA and Strata law.

The association has drawn up a manifesto of issues that it believes “would make IMPZ a better choice for investment”, and a functioning development. Among the the issues residents want to see tackled are the provision of paved roads with pavements and lighting, telephone connections, parking and an efficient sewage management system.
