Big 5 set to give construction business a boost

The Big 5 exhibitors are expecting an increased demand in their products after the show this year, which has been reported to have grown in size since 2008.

Manufactures and suppliers are positive that they will leave a lasting impression on delegates as they showcase their products at the event.

“After meeting new contacts in the industry we expect to see an increase in the demand for our products. Once the local market sees the quality of the metal profiles produced here in the UAE, they will want to use these in their projects,” said Kerim Caglar, marketing manager of Knauf, a dry wall systems provider.

Mapei business development manager Laith Haboubi added: “We believe that our products provide exceptional value to our customers, whether it be our problem solving approach or the achievement of a better finish or longer durability. If we are able to demonstrate these to visitors during the show, then I believe it should increase both enquiries and demand for our products.”

Event organisers, DMG attributed the positive signs to high confidence in the Middle East construction market’s potential in the future.

“The Big 5 exhibition is somewhat of a barometer for the construction industry and we are extremely positive that business is starting to stabilise,” said show director Paula Al Chami.

“We seem to be bucking the trend of some other trade shows, which has been reflected in the increased floor space, and the right level of industry people signing up.”

This year’s show will be 15% larger by exhibition space than in 2008.

“Clearly, this has been a year of a slow down in growth in construction, but it seems that The Big 5 is coming at just the right time, as the industry is starting to look forwards again and will be able to put a considerable amount of speculation to rest," added Chami.
