The company has carried out MEP services for a number of prestigious projects, most notably for the Burj Dubai, the Dubai Metro, Concourse 3 at Dubai International Airport and the Dubai Marina Mall and Hotel Complex.
An example of the company’s innovative approach was the domestic water supply and fire sprinkler system for the Burj Dubai. The system is based on the principle of gravity, with water being pumped to the water tanks in the upper level mechanical room for further distribution. This approach was made achievable by the sheer height of the building itself, and represented a unique solution.
Other challenges included:
• Dropping of heavy cables weighing 8 tons from level 156 downwards;
• Chilled water at 3.3°C pumped to heat exchangers at level 73;
• Pipe guides and ball joints installed at various levels, enabling free movement of the pipework within the building to take into account seismic events, building defelction, vibration and acoustic requirements;
• Installation of chillers and AHUs at 156 level;
• Installation of 600 mm ductile iron drainage and vent stacks up to level 160;
• Installation of huge extract fans inside the spire at 700 m level; and
• Installation of 2 500 kVA generators, weighing 27 t, at ground-floor level.
ETA executive director Anwar Bashar said the award reflected the company’s commitment to quality and service excellence in what is a difficult time for the MEP sector. “We are delighted to receive this recognition, which vindicates our strategy of excellence in customer service.”
ETA is currently expanding its activities in the larger MENA region, and is already carrying out AED1 billion worth of work in Doha, Qatar, including the Qatar Navigation Tower and Barwa City. In India it is working on the Delhi International Airport and the Delhi Metro. “The work we execute, no matter where, is underpinned by the values acknowledged by this prestigious accolade,” said Bashar.
