Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber is taking the Masdar idea overseas.
Masdar will consider the development of a carbon-neutral city in Malaysia and explore clean technology projects worth US $100 million (AED367 million) in total.
The Abu Dhabi firm signed a deal with 1Malaysia Development (1MDB) at the World Future Energy Summit on Monday, which is set to lead to the investment in carbon reduction projects.
“We value this partnership with Malaysia and applaud their move to actively pursue and invest in new green technologies,” said Masdar CEO Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber.
1MDB chief executive officer Shahrol Halmi added that clean technology was an increasingly important sector for the future economic development of Malaysia. “The partnership with Masdar will help expose Malaysia and 1MDB to world-class capabilities in sustainable development,” he said.

masdar illusion
Again another lot of smoke and mirrors. As previously said above this is no more than a marketing exercise and an attempt to b*****t people into thinking it's a reality. It's a bigger smoke and mirror illusion than the ill-fated World project in Dubai.

MASDAR JOKE
Their approach to environmental aspects has been pathetic. It really has just been a marketing exercise. No-one of true international status has wanted to be involved due to the lack of financial backing by the UAE government. The government actually wants other countries/companies to invest rather than the UAE themselves. Is this a serious approach to environmental concern? A lot of companies across the world have wasted their time/money to tender for aspects of the project that then go nowhere due to lack of funding and payments.

Green technology
At any rate its a positive move.If Masdar as the initiator wld pretend, their aggressive emerging partner should be given a chance. Malaysia possess one of the best structural framework on ODS & carbon emmission control that deserve such collaboration. A look at their role in MFL, green custom and many others indicates the seriousness.

Masdar is a mirage
Only the Masdar Institute building, the Masdar/Irena HQ, plus a few small buildings will be built, less than 1/20th of what they promised. The PRT system will go, with only 10 vehicles as a Disney-style attraction.
After 5 years, there is nothing to show except one small school, one building, a "fund" that is losing money, a few investments in Europe.
That's it people. Nothing to share with the world, and no contracts for hungry companies.
It will be interesting to see how they handle the inevitable backlash when the global green community realized that they've been had.

Masdar goes green
Masdar is pursuing some really interesting projects these days: carbon-neutral cities, the $100M new green investment fund with Deutsche Bank, and second-generation biofuel studies. Masdar is poised to lead the UAE?s green revolution.

Carbon Neutral - easy
On a recent visit to the Masdar project organised by a government body, we were all surprised at the lack of interest the Masdar staff showed at what could have been beneficial to them. Their answer was "we have thought about that but instead will buy more carbon credits" .... ! Take a look at their carpark - it's full of 4 x 4s and not a low emmission car in sight. Surely this must be taken into account in the calculations for their carbon footprint? Will they just buy more carbon credits for the big cars as well!! At no stage are they trying to build the project in a carbon neutral way - the answer when asked about their sub contractors and the monitoring of their emmissions was "that's not our concern".

Maadar Eyes Malaysia for carbon Neutral City
It will a good move if we can create a twin carbon neutral city with Malaysia. Malaysia being one of the leading South East Asian nation pushing sustainable practices much earlier should be able to immensely contribute towards this goal. This could further spur the growth of carbon neutral cities in more countries to form examplary standards for the rest to emulate. Cheers to this initiative...

co2 emmision
i appraciate all efforts by masdaror for reduce co2 emmision from conistruction activity since some studies prove that Building consume more than 60% of electricity in the USA and this activity is connected with using more potable water, generate a hug amount of waste materials in addition to CO2 immersion which is lead to change in the global atmosphere like increase temperature ,melting ice and increase sea level .
