World Future Energy Summit is debating what to do about old and unsustainable buildings.
Ramboll Middle East will invest US $81,670 (AED 300,000) in researching new strategies to improve the energy efficiency of existing buildings in the region.
Speaking at the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi, the engineering consultancy explained that the research will be available free of charge to aid the Middle East’s residents in making their homes and offices more sustainable.
“There are many developers in the region who use sustainability ratings as a key pillar of their new projects. Yet it is well-known that new buildings are greatly outnumbered by those already in existence,” said Ramboll Middle East managing director Peyman Mohajer.
“With this in mind, Ramboll is committing AED300,000 to research into designing existing UAE buildings towards being carbon neutral.”
Ramboll is now arranging meetings with other firms and organisations in the region to discuss future partnerships.
