Sedman: ME region offers great opportunities for development.
Cable supplier R&M has expanded its Qualified Partner Programme (QPP) for the MENA region so as to advance best practice and address problems due to poor planning and design practices.
R&M’s QPP for the region has three main target groups: planners, project managers and installers. Training sessions are typically conducted over two days.
“We and our head office see this region as one of the best opportunities in the world for development,” said R&M technical director MEA Andrew Sedman.
“Training and education are the cornerstones of successful development. Therefore, we are naturally committed to ensuring the most up-to-date and relevant training initiatives are supported in this region. The challenge I see is the continued education of those who place ‘cheap’ in front of ‘quality’ and ‘risk to the business’.”
Sedman explained that the training offered, “is generally more of an education and therefore of greater benefit to the participants. The general understanding of best practices in the Middle East is therefore advancing with this; the results that we see are very positive. Along with our clients, consultants and partners we see better planning, greater understanding and better quality installations and due diligence in managing the performance of a project team.”
For the planners, training concentrates on design and standards awareness, with practical sessions included, while the project managers concentrate on project management and product awareness. The installers mostly have hands-on sessions concentrating on copper and fibre installation, termination and testing.
In terms of being submitted onto the QPP training course, Sedman said basic requirements of previous experience in cabling have to be evident.
“Post this training, continued development is available at our training academy in our Dubai office, where we have simulated installations that can be tested and seen by the engineers to better understand how the cabling works under certain conditions.”
