A new industry body will lobby for solar power to be made mandatory.
The Masdar Institution of Science and Technology has created a forum to promote building sustainability and solar technologies, ConstructionWeekOnline can reveal.
Emirates Solar Industries Association, which currently has around 35 members, is set to be rolled out to the wider market in the next couple of months.
“The aim is to pressurise the government to set compulsory regulations so that people will invest in solar power technologies,” said Eurostar divisional manager for solar technical and business development Jit Chakravarty.
Eurostar will soon introduce photovoltaic panels, which will power buildings by converting solar energy into electricity.
“This will take some time because it is quite expensive, but we are expecting 2010 to see a big growth in solar technology,” Chakravarty added.
