Proposed laws would add further protection for private sector workers in Bahrain.
Private sector companies in Bahrain which discriminate against employees on grounds of their sex, race or religion will be prosecuted under proposed new laws.
According to a report in Gulf Daily News, companies will also face legal action if they fire staff members for getting married or accepting community roles.
"Sacking or other action against employees because of their race, colour, gender or sect, will become illegal with the introduction of the new law," Labour Minister Dr Majeed Al Alawi told Sharia Council members.
"It means that if tomorrow someone buys a firm and decides to fire white or dark employees because he doesn't want or like them, he would be prosecuted."

Contradiction in policy
How does this fit in with the policy of Bahrainisation? All too often expats are removed from positions (particularly white collar/management) in order to promote a Bahraini employee or meet the increasing limits of locals vs expats employed in a company. Some jobs/roles are also exclusively limited by the Ministry of Labour to Bahrainis only.

Revolution for Expatriates Status in Bahrain
It's a great news for all expatriates living in kingdom of Bahrain and it's evident that LMRA is constantly showing their professionalism under the patronage of Bahrain Government. I was in Bahrain for a while and presently in KSA, now I am in dilemma to re-locate due to various changes being delivered by LMRA more than two years. I hope rest of the Gulf countries perhaps review the current laws and regulation which would gear up their country's image in front of the prevailing world.

Workers should not be passive
Laws in Bahrain are implementable if workers know their right and pursue it appropriately through the Ministry of Labour or the appropriate channel. Bahrain is setting a role model for the GCC countries in this vital area. UAE who has been innovative in a number of areas lags behind in applying appropriate labour law. Discrimination regulations must be in place in UAE.

Bahrain Labour Laws
Bahraini companies wont notice this new legislation change nor will they implement it, just like Hassan said, "the laws are never implemented". Very sledom are ANY laws implemented or enforced in Bahrain, dont believe the press it is just lip service.

Laws in Bahrain are not implemented and remain for the local media only
So far the previous laws giving the employees the right to change jobs were never implemented. Despite all what was said and written in the news last year; no employee can switch job without an NOC from his current employer. Also all employers are still holding passports of their employees without any legal right.
Bahrain praises itself for the improved human rights; but still did not apply yet any of these laws.
