District cooling provider Empower has called on GCC countries to make district cooling services mandatory in new real estate projects in order to save energy and conserve natural resources, following on Dubai’s successful example with this technology.
The call comes as Empower participates in the 12th Water Technology, Energy and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2010) at the Dubai International Conference & Exhibition Centre. Empower CEO Ahmad Bin Shafar said the residential sector has achieved operational savings of 40% to 45% compared with conventional air-con technologies.
At WETX 2010, Empower is showcasing its new ELIPS solution, produced at the newly-established Empower-Logstor Insulated Pipes System facility in Jebel Ali, and the UAE’s largest pre-insulated pipe manufacturing facility.

“District cooling is the most eco-friendly technology in meeting our emission reduction targets. We urge GCC countries to take the UAE’s efforts with district cooling into consideration as a regional model. The growth in district cooling systems will be huge in the years to come,” said Bin Shafar.
He added that ELIPS will help service the critical demand for high-quality pre-insulated pipes needed for large-scale district cooling, helping to reduce the capital costs of this technology across the region.
Empower is providing district cooling services to an array of projects in Dubai, including the Dubai International Financial Centre, Dubai Healthcare City, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Culture City, Business Bay and City Of Arabia.
