Work on Al Maabar’s Marsa Zayed project in Aqaba will start in the third quarter, according to Yousif Al Nowais, managing director of Al Maabar.
The development, which has a reported budget of around US $10 billion, will include around 2km of waterfront space and will feature a cruise ship terminal and several marinas.
Work will begin with infrastructure work on approximately 300,000 m² of land, which will be followed by development of a 35-story mixed-use tower, around 130 townhouses and the Sheikh Zayed Mosque.
Work on this first phase of the project will take place between 2010 and 2014.
A total of 3.2 million m² has been set aside for the entire project. Around 2 million m² has been handed over to the developer with another 1.2 million m² to be handed over in 2013 when Aqaba Port vacates the space.
