Dubai Waterfront
Dubai Waterfront was the reclamation project to top all reclamation projects. It would have covered a total of 1.4 billion ft², added 70km of coastline to Dubai and been around twice the size of Hong Kong.

In addition to six reclaimed islands, it included an inland component and a canal called the Arabian Cove. At one point in 2008, Nakheel said it was reclaiming land at a rate fast enough to fill London's Wembley Stadium each month.

As with the Palm, Nakheel planned to build some of its own residential projects and act as a masterplanner, overseeing the activities of third party developers. Individual components of the project included Madinat Al Arab, Dubai Promenade, Canal District and Waterfront City.

AMERICA'S Stupidity
To those 2 American "dudes" Gavin and Nick: this is not an argument but rather a lesson to fill that ignorance of yours. Once you have read and understood what the US have done pre-crisis, then come back to the site and we can then debate. If I recall right, European countries, especially Greece, Portugal, Spain, etc are still suffering financial difficulties as a result of the sub-primes in the US. If American banks were not that stupidly greedy, the American government not that stupidly ignorant, the poor American home buyers not that stupid to purchase multiple homes (with the only lending requirement being the ability to write one's own name without spelling mistakes), then this financial crisis wouldn?t have happened. Bless you for your patriotism. I can but only guess that you guys are the single minded, unilinguistic type of guys who always read the same news papers, and so always hear one side of the story. Educate yourself. Learn, read then argue with me in any language.

Completion of unfinished projects - Nakheel
Kalid - Blame the US? You cannot be serious. Why not blame GW Bush? That's equally stupid. In addition to poor and top heavy middle management there was uncontrolled corruption. I hope Nakheel has learned and hires practical experienced people and less lawyers and to beat up on contractors.

Nakheel is the best
Nakheel is the good company because in bad/ crises time their management trying to solve the problems of investors and they refund back money to the investor through consolidation, This was the very positive step. I suggest to Nakheel offer properties to the remaining investor who are not willing to pay more money due to hevy amount in easy installment on long terms schedule like 10 year after some discount in the price because in 2008 the prices was too high.

Response
I cannot believe that anyone can be as ignorant or misinformed as Khalid (first comment). Does he really believe that the sad state of Dubai development is solely the responsibility of foreign (American) influence and that the UAE government and developers are blameless? It concerns me that someone who was ?in charge? of so much of the Waterfront development could be that clueless. Perhaps he needs to read a few more horror stories of innocent investors who have been criminally ripped off by unscrupulous developers, who are getting away with it because they have the authorities on their side.

Dubai Waterfront Design Teams
Working for the Lead consultant Mouchel on the Dubai Waterfront Project as the Project Manager Highways and Transportation, I must say that I did enjoy this prestigious project, the challenges with all Nakheel and Mouchel staff, the RTA, various consultants, Africon, GHD, etc. I was responsible for the madinat Al Arab and the CBD Waterfront City arm of teh project. I was also responsible for the strategic highways and interchanges and coordination with the Palm JEbel Ali consultants GHD and traffic engineers Africon. It was the best time of my life. will never forget the people I have work with. This crisis meant loosing most of my good friends as they were made redundant. as always, all bad things have a source (America's stupidity) and a solution (HHSMBRAM's perseverance).

How about a vote...
...what do the people of Dubai think Nakheel would be best investing this windfall into? I would be interested to see a poll on that.

Need more info.
Good Article, but those are the Mega Iconic projects of Nakheel, what about the other projects that makes the real market like jumeirah heights ,as Mr. Wadih said it is at advanced stage in termes of conecrte works for both Fronds A & B. Editor's note: Current speculation suggests that Nakheel will now prioritise projects that have already made progress, such as Al Fujran, Jumeirah Park and Jumeirah Village.
