Burj's observation deck could drop to 4th highest

The Burj Khalifa observation deck could soon drop to the position of world's fourth highest, according to statistics received by Construction Week from Chicago-based world skyscraper authority, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).

Last week, it was revealed that the Burj Khalifa has only the second highest observation deck in the world, losing out by a mere 22m to the Shanghai World Financial Centre in China, which is officially the highest.

Emaar contends that it offers “the world's highest observation deck with an outdoor terrace”.

CW is now privy to information pertaining to two more towers currently under construction, which could possibly have higher observation decks than the Burj Khalifa and the Shanghai World Financial Centre.

“There are two buildings currently under construction which may have higher observation decks [than the Burj Khalifa including] Shanghai Tower (565m) and Makkah Royal Clock Tower Hotel (559m),” said CTBUH database head Marshall Gerometta.

But he also said that these heights were not confirmed as he was still to view the towers’ elevation drawings.

Currently, the top five observation decks include those of China’s Shanghai World Financial Center at 474m, followed by the Burj Khalifa with 452m in second position, Canada’s CN Tower in third place with a height of 447m, Taiwan’s Taipei 101 at 438m and the US’ Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower) in 5th position with an observation deck at 413m.
