Saudi Binladin Group remains the biggest construction contractor in Saudi Arabia, by a massive margin.
The company topped ConstructionWeek’s list of the top 13 construction contractors in the kingdom. According to figures from research group Ventures Middle East, the contractor is more than US $25 billion worth of active building contracts ahead of its next nearest rival, Al Arrab Trading & Contracting, which has $3.9 billion worth of building contracts on its books.
If all types of contracts are considered, including those from joint ventures, the gap barely changes, with Saudi Binladin having a whopping $41 billion worth of work on its books, ahead of Saudi Oger, with $16.9 billion.
Other companies in the top half of the list included Al Redwan Contracting, Al Latifia Trading & Contracting and Saudi Constructioneers.

The big two, Saudi Oger and Saudi Binladin Group have ruled the KSA market for decades and consistently secure the biggest projects through a combination of resources – both personnel and material – and extent of capital backing.
This dominance is not always viewed favourably by other firms in the kingdom. To combat this, at least 11 local construction companies are planning to merge to form one of the kingdom’s largest contractors, to be called Saudi Consolidate Contracting Company, which is expected to be worth US $1.1 billion.
Plans to finalise the number of firms involved in the merger are expected by July 2010, before an operational company is established sometime in 2013.
