Green initiatives that led to AED30m in savings for his clients, and a combined team effort during difficult circumstances were two major factors that underpinned his award as Facilities Manager of the Year award said Idama’s Jawed Khan.

Speaking after receiving his award at the annual Facilities Management Middle East awards ceremony, held at the Park Hyatt Dubai last night, Khan said the award had come as a complete surprise, and that he was astounded to have been recognised by the industry for the third year in a row.

“I can’t believe it – but I can’t take all the credit. The team worked very hard, and this award belongs to them too – it has been a real team effort. I’m really excited about winning. We worked really hard for this, and to be rewarded in a competitive industry such as this, is an honour.”

Khan’s cost saving initiatives included reducing water, electricity consumption and on site wastage.

“It’s not easy balancing green issues with cost saving, but there are many things you can do, and many products available that help make huge savings.”
