Suhail Mahmood Al Ansari, associate business development director at Mubadala said that the firm was pleasantly surprised to receive the joint award. He said he was glad that the Cleveland Clinics emphasis on sustainability, as well as how it fits in with the Urban Planning Council's plans for Sowwah Island - where it is due to be built - had been recognized by the judges.
"The hospital is right next to Abu Dhabi's new financial district therefore the presence and the unique design of this hospital matches the skyline that is upcoming in the area," he said.
"It has been designed in line with the Urban Planning Council's aspirations to go more green, and shows that we do take sustainability very seriously."
The UAE won big at the event, with Abu Dhabi's Al Mafraq Hospital netting Best Sustainable Hospital Project. Saif Fadhel Al Hameli, at the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company PJSC (SEHA), said he was pleased that both the new Mafraq Hospital, and the company's new hospital in Al Ain, were shortlisted.
“We thank the selection committee for their recognition," he said.
