A South African building contractor has gone to court to halt the Soccer World Cup, stating it has not been paid ZAR28.8million (AED13.6m) for upgrade work at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
The Star newspaper of Johannesburg reports that, two days before the start of the biggest soccer spectacular in Africa, and five days before the much-anticipated Group D clash between Ghana and Serbia at Loftus on Sunday, Homeless Building Construction CC has taken Tshwane Metro Council to the Pretoria High Court.
However, the Tshwane Metro Council has said it will counter the action. It is also considering laying criminal charges against the company for what it terms extortion. Ironically, Loftus was one of the stadiums completed early, and the first to be handed over to Fifa.
