Salary survey delves into pay and working hours

Salary survey will examine professional pay in the GCC construction sector.

The 2010 Construction Week Salary Survey is up and running.

The survey, which runs until September 30, will be used to gather anonymous information about pay levels in the Gulf construction industry.

Issues such as working hours, job stability and the demographics of the professional work force, are also covered in the survey questions.

In its first week 432 people have responded. Last year the survey attracted a total of 1221 responses. Results will be published in October and results compared to those from the 2009 survey.

In 2009 the survey found the average monthly salary of GCC construction professionals to be US $6047. Working hours were predictably long, with 38% of respondents putting in more than 50 hours a week. People were also fairly new to their jobs, with 79% of respondents having been with their current employer less than five years.
