Bahrain’s midday work ban comes in to force on July 1, with officials warning that any companies caught violated the law will face severe consequences.
The ban will last for two months and prevents labourers and other workers subjected to the midday sun, from working between the hours of 12-noon and 4pm.
"Companies and businesses flouting the ban will be referred to the Public Prosecution," Labour Ministry assistant undersecretary for labour affairs Sabah Salem Al Dosary said in a report published in Bahrain daily newspaper Gulf Daily News.
Dosary said that companies who ignore the ban would be fined between BHD50 to BHD300 (AED490-3,000) for every staff member found working during the times stipulated.
"We urged the Municipalities and Agriculture Ministry to supply us with a list of all construction sites across Bahrain for labour inspectors to monitor," he told the newspaper.
Bahrain first implemented the summer midday work ban in 2007 and officials say it has been a huge success.
The UAE’s work ban came in to effect on June 15 – and Saudi last month announced that it would implement its own work ban from next summer, giving companies and contractors in the country time to adjust their planning to accommodate the change in working hours.
