Abu Dhabi Gas Development Company (ADGDCL) has appointed Honeywell to help ensure safe and efficient production at the Shah Gas Development Project.
The project, which is expected to yield one billion cubic feet of gas per day when it reaches full capacity in 2014, will significantly increase the Emirate’s gas supply – critical to domestic and industrial growth in the region.
Through its Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) and Safety Manager technologies, Honeywell will give personnel at ADGDCL a complete view of process and safety information across the site, reducing the risk of health and safety incidents during gas extraction.
In addition, Honeywell will design, engineer and implement a range of new technologies and applications that will help the plant operate more efficiently.

ADGDCL’s CEO Saif Al-Ghafli said: "This is a highly strategic project for the Emirate and it was imperative for us to select the right partners.
“Honeywell's reputation for successfully executing complex mega-projects was a significant factor in our selection.”
Although the Shah Gas field was discovered over 40 years ago, up until now, ADGDCL has struggled to extract the gas due to dangerously high levels of hydrogen sulfide at the site.
One of Honeywell’s wireless network systems, OneWireless, will alert staff when dangerous gases are detected, and help track key personnel and assets at the site during construction and operational phases.
Other Honeywell systems will include software to optimize gas plant operations, information management systems to improve supervision of safety operations, as well as monitoring and reporting applications that will help with HSE incident reporting and best practice management.
"This is the biggest gas development project for years in the UAE, and designing and delivering this solution would not have been possible even just five years ago," said Honeywell Process Solutions president Norm Gilsdorf.
"Today, new technology combined with deep consulting expertise and a proven methodology means we are able to help ADGDCL make this essential project a success from day one."
