Construction and excavation firms have until next week to submit their tenders for upgrading work on Balancing Lagoons in Doha.
The Public Works Authority, also known as Ashghal, has set a 4th July deadline for the lagoons at Doha South STW. Work includes increasing its depth, compact, consolidate & HDPE line the existing bunds.
The old lagoon is to be dewatered, followed by excavation and a leveling of the bottom and the construction of new 230m by 310m lagoon as extension for the existing lagoon with over flow arrangement between the two.
The contractor is to supply and install all materials, except where mentioned in BOQ, transport it to the site, complete the excavation concrete work, shoring, protection for buried concrete, disposal of debris properly, granular bedding as well as all pipe work, Ashghal stated.

The contactor shall allow for liaison, supervision and attendance of PWA staff, mobilization, permits and compliance with all their specifications and requirements, it said.
Extension to the Doha South STW is an ongoing project that comprises modifications to its sludge treatment plant, aiming to increase treatment capacity by approximately 80,000m3 to bring the total capacity to 180,000m3 per day.
It is one of a clutch of upgrading projects as the gas-rich country forges ahead with the regeneration of its infrastructure.
The department of Asset Management Affairs has slapped a 5th July deadline on tenders for the replacement and upgrading work for the Existing Sewer Lines at Ibn Abi Sulma Street. The work shall include the replacement of the existing pipeline and in some places the line will be rerouted. Excavation, bedding and back filling work will also be required, it said.
Meanwhile, German contractor Hochtief is hopeful of being able to extend its work on the construction of the commercial avenue in the centre of Doha. Dr Bernd Puttner, spokesperson for the global firm, said: “This is a large residential and retail project that's 8 kilometres long. We’ve finished the shell; construction and are now working on elements such as the facades and the interior. This is one of the biggest in Doha.”
The company’s involvement is within a joint venture with real estate giant Qatari Diar. Puttner said although Qatari Diar is in charge of the future procurement of sub-contracting services, Hochtief was hopeful of gaining more work on the project.
