A large fire razed an oil and chemical storage unit at a factory owned by the United Foods Company in Al Quoz, Dubai, this morning.
The fire started at around 2.30am and tore through the storehouse, sending huge plumes of black smoke in to the air over the industrial sector of the city. No-one was injured during the blaze, but it took fire crews and around a dozen fire engines from the Dubai Cicil Defence department several hours to extinguish the fire and to keep it spreading to the factory.
The factory, which produces popular brands of cooking oil, Ghee, butter, margarine and other baking goods, sits behind the Pepsi factory near the second interchange on Shaikh Zayed Road.
One commuter said that clouds of smoke were still clearly visible at 7.30am.
The cause of the fire is not yet known but it’s believed the storehouse was locked and there were no workers near it at the time of the blaze.

All the bloody oil got burnt so no more cooking with oil. Put food in your mouth and push it with a stick.
