Labourers at camp in Sharjah, left to fend for themselves after the company they were working for allegedly abandoned them, may finally have something to look forward to.

She said conditions at the camp had been terrible. Overflowing sewerage and poor living conditions had meant many of the men had been ill – but most were on the mend now following a visit by a doctor from City Hospital.
“Some have not been paid for six months – one hasn’t had any pay for 12 months,” Mrs Shaikh said.
“We’ve had a lot of clothing, money and food donated – so we’re going to spend Friday sorting it in to packages, and hand them out later in the day,” she said.
The Ministry of Labour is aware of the issue, Mrs Shaikh said, and plans were afoot to fly the men home within the next few weeks. Consulate and embassy staff from various countries were also helping to support the men while issues were worked through.
“About 100 men who want to stay have been interviewed, and we’re sure they can be placed with other firms soon,” Mrs Shaikh said.
"They just want to work hard to be able to send money home for their families. What has happened to them is very sad, and very unfair," she said.
