The Royal Commission in Jubail has launched a service where residents can apply for building permits online.

Previously, householders or small contractors would have to stand in line and fill out a multitude of forms.

Now, the commission suggests that the entire process can be completed in less than an hour.

Permits for building renovation won’t cost more than 50 riyals either, according to the commission. Interestingly, some of the permits for popular modifications such as kitchen refits can be speeded up further, by choosing a permit for a pre-set plan.

Ahmed Mutair Al-Balawi, GM of technical affairs for the Royal Commission said: “Customers can choose ready-made building models which suit their taste, moreover, lessen their efforts going to some engineering offices and deal with financial losses regarding the designs to be implemented.”
